New blog - the Rainbow's Chaos

I have a new blog about all things colour, the Rainbow's Chaos, come share in the rainbow -

Life follows the storm. . .
A blog about all things colourful, an alternative look at the world from the girl with kaleidoscope eyes. Share the rainbow.

Girl with kaleidoscope eyes is no longer updated, but have a look around. Here are some of my favourite posts from my time as a hand dyeing, rainbow loving, small business owning mumma.

100% Colour

I have been experimenting the last few months with my dyeing methods to produce different results and styles. The newest range is called 100% colour. These pieces are not just tie-dye in a backyard, they look they are professionally dyed with colour that matches the Procion MX colour chart.
They will listed on Ozebaby in the next week.

about time I updated my blog

it has been a while as I have been so busy of late. I haven't been doing too much dyeing, but am really loving rainbow spirals and new methods of applying dye that makes the most vibrant colours that need to be seen in real life to be believed.
I dyed a few customs the other day but am yet to take photos so here are some pics of recent stuff.

and I am really loving dyeing cuts of fabrics for nappies or pads. Cotton velour is my fav to dye, it seems more sturdy than bamboo velour.

these are bamboo velour
my favourite is 'Divine Feminine', it looks like a womb

Rainbows galore and rainbow pad and nappy bamboo velor cuts. Stocking Thursday night @ 8pm at my Ozebaby store.
Don't fret if you miss out though, many more hand dyed bits coming in the next month.

more GDUNH stock

this is the last on it unless I decide to make some during the month the hunt runs, which could be likely as I am loving dyeing at the moment, I love that it is unpredictable (painting is so predictable and safe) and I love that I can make something soft and fairy life one day, and something wild the next. So much versatility actually with dye. anyway, here is a pic or two. These rainbow spirals are all soft, neraly pastel in colour so the tees are not overpowering.

inspired styles

Part of my new line includes mandalas inspired by timeless ideas and rituals of spiritual societies. These pieces are almost like artistic impressions or representations of yantras (magic symbols), fire yagnas (sacrifices), sand mandalas made by Tibetan buddhists and tribal and pagan images of fire dancing, tribal gatherings, initiations and corroboree events.
These pieces are also aimed at the crystal children being born at this time in the world. You can read more about them here. Here are some of my favourites so far from this new line.
This one is called fire yagna. 2nd one is flower and reminiscent of sand mandala of monks.

This is Lotus and is similar to yantras for the cosmos.

This doesn't have a name yet, but is similar to the Tibetan wheel of fire.

more hunt stock

I am nearly finished dyeing for stock during the hunt. There are a few bags requiring an extra colour from dip dyed and then they all need stenciling, and I'll be finished! I'm loving dyeing the bigger pieces as they allow for detail that just can't be achieved on small children's tees.

Results

it's a bit too windy outside to get good photos of these drying, but here are some snap shots. The singlet (right) is dyed using a japanese shirbori method. The colours in the photo are really bad, it is so vibrant and really cute IRL. The Wondersuit (left) is dyed using a spiral tie.

These are part of my new range and will make up a large aspect of my market stalls in the future. This one is a sun...

and this is a eight pointed star. Colours are much more vibrant IRL. Will be up for sale during the GDUNH.

dyeing day

white - so stark, sterile and clinical, I'm not a fan! Can't wait to dye these tomorrow. The ones banded up and for direct application method and I have another lot for immersion dyeing.
I'm also not a huge fan of wax resist but wanted to give it a try again.

Buddhist script

This tee has been listed at Ozebaby for auction.
It features the Buddhist mantra "Om mani padme hum" hand stenciled on the front in fibre reactive dyes. I have also dyed the tee is a marble effect to resemble old paper or a carved stone. I have hand made the stencil out of waste plastics from around the home.
I love this, not only because I have some attraction to Lord Buddha, but because it embodies more meaning and substance than anything I have made for my business in a while. I get so sick of doing cutesy stuff that has no deeper meaning, especially as I wouldn't paint it on a canvas, why am I on shirts???

I am having a break from stenciling with dye for a while as it is a very touchy medium to work with, by nature being liquid, it likes to run. It can also back dye whilst rinsing and can destroy a piece I have spent literally days on in a few seconds.
It really isn't worth it for me at this time.
Hope those who have some hand stenciled pieces appreciate them, although they will never really understand the work that has gone in to them.

soft velour

I dyed this cotton velour up the other day while i contemplate what to make with it.
It dyed really nicely, I'm happy with the result as I was a bit spontaneous with it. I think it has this real fairy quality to it, so I will use it accordingly.

some current favourites

these are some of my current favourites during my uninspired phase.
This tee is hand dyed with various shades of pink. I like it because it is pink but doesn't have that cutesy factor that many modern girl's clothing has (and I find distasteful). I call this tee 'Pink Cloud'.

And this has always been my favourite stenciled piece. I have made a few of these, this one is the most recent. There is just something so simplistic about it. I made these stencils out of waste plastic from my own consuming and have hand cut them with a box cutter. Now I have a better knife LOL. I use a unique tying method (my own) to make the background reminiscent of bamboo. The panda and bamboo is then stenciled onto the tee with dye. Stenciling with dye is a pain staking process because it is liquid and likes to run. I am over caring for perfection otherwise I would give myself a nervous breakdown.
